It's better to be the president of Iraq than Palestine!
Palestine and Iraq are remarkably similar - they've both got foreign armies running around, trying to prevent violence and shooting people fairly indiscrimitately. However, when a local blows himself up, look at the difference. In Iraq, the US response is to support the president more. But in palestine, Israel's response is to sever ties with the president.
Imagine if Israel tried the US's Iraq tactics - after a bombing, they'd put even more money and troops in, and just try even harder to negociate and promote democracy. Or if the US tried Israel's tactics - after a bombing we'd sever ties with the gov't and insist that nothing could be done until the president stops in violence. I think it's obvious from Iraq that the so-called president of a country doesn't in fact have the ability to stop all violence.
It's absurd for Israel to insist on the cessation of violence before negociating, when it's obvious from Iraq that billions of dollars, 100,000 troops, and a puppet regime aren't enough to stop violence.
