My Photomapping Setup

I am doing photomapping on open street map, which is a great site.

Device & Setup

Android cell phone (Galaxy Note 3)

Tripod mounted on the front of an ebike. It's fairly stable but not 100% locked down. Having some kind of method to automatically do stabilization would make it even better.

Settings

  1. Burst Mode
  2. Burst mode zero delay
  3. Focus: continuous
  4. Exposure: standard, or -0.5 or -1.0 as it gets darker

This takes about 2-3 photos / second, and most of them are fairly sharp.

Method

Drive Around continuously shooting. Add points later.

Future

There are specialized devices for cars, etc which possibly would be an improvement. At least for stability, they would be.

I'd also like to get better http://mapillary.com Mapillary integration into JOSM, to drag and drop photos into that and use them for mapping. Plus, having things linked up there would be useful.
