Pure sounds

Within this there are 4 musical lines. The "melody" is the 2nd from the top - the one which you probably think of when you think about the song, or hum it. But, as I recently learned, around that are the other lines. they're hard to sing because you have to NOT match the main line, but they cause resonance which sounds incredible.

How it started?

As a kid somehow I ended up at a concert of traditional american music, maybe 12 years old. I always loved that SO much without ever really putting it into words. I love listening to these songs in the car, singing along, trying to get a local copy of that intense resonance when you hit or match a different note in the right way!

Also I claim this: that real-life barbershop contains sounds which cannot be reproduced or maybe even captured, on normal systems. i.e. the chills that it gives you in real life, when the voice all merge together perfectly, is super great. Of course, this is mostly just ASMR before that term was recognized. That sounds like I'm minimizing it but really, I just love it, it's great, it's social, yes it's better than DIY making your own sounds, although, have fun, go to town, get to know your own sensory input systems, that's good!

Okay, it's undeniably conservative. There's definitely a feeling that drone/pure sounds are somehow linked to such desires.. WIP

Another good thing I got from WFMU

One day I heard this specific listener hour, where the kind of bad-tempered listener-host jammed in as many barbershop songs as he could into an hour; from this I remembered how much I loved it. This was on WFMU in jersey city, which I've been following and listening to all those years living far away from it!
