A friend randomly started teaching me golfing. It's really opened my eyes to land use. All around us, mostly hidden from view, are tons of beautifully laid out and designed golf courses.
Golf itself is so highly selected for the kind of "tactical landscape viewing", planning, etc. that men usually like to do. Like, where would you site the castle, where would you build walls, etc. Or even just where'd you put the archers, soldiers, hidden caches, etc similar to tower defense fantasies.

They still get unfairly cheap property tax rates, and disguise this super inefficient land use scheme. But they are fun. you can generally just walk on - there is very little checking or intense things (although the actual rules about how to play around are long-standing and somewhat detailed; it's a typical honor-based proper behavior type of competitive evolved social system)
Price
It's also really cheap. Perhaps 30$ for a 2 hour round of just 9 holes. 25$ for cart rental if you want to go faster. Clubs are expensive but day to day it's cheap.

A driving range right on Stanford's campus - just drop in and spend 10$ on some balls to hit, and chill. etc.
