It's an incredible and beautiful spot, on top of a major ridge which is often full of moody fog.
The graves are from all the groups and cultures which make up this area. There are large Korean pagoda-like structures, Indian language memorials, really everything. Yet most of it is barely developed and under construction. There is a public trail connected to or leaving from it somewhere - I haven't found exactly where that is actually despite looking. You may go farther beyond the edge of the land, but apparently it's heavily patrolled;
If you continue through the Funeral place going east, you get to one of the many many seriously high security gates or locked trails through and around this reservoir area; both here and down below, those beautiful lakes which you cross a little bridge over, beautiful flat water shimmering on both sides, extend, but are extremely off limits. I once registered for a trail hike through the upper part here, and the rules were so strict that we went through as a group with a uniformed officer of the group defending these forests, and were warned that if anyone strayed too far out of sight, they'd shut it all down; anyone needing to return to start would also have the same result.
I am not sure why it's so extremely high security, perhaps some leftover and maybe reasonable worries from the 1960s or 1970s changes up in SF?
